Let’s tackle the government’s new policy on Mandatory Data Breach Reporting. Stringent upgrades to Cyber Security and Privacy Laws in Australia means any loss or hack you have to your own customer data face stiff penalties if not reported (known as Mandatory Reporting). Now a breach or a loss of data could be something as malicious as a hacker breaking into your site and stealing your consumer database, or disgruntled Bob in Sales, taking home a copy of your client database & IP with the intention of starting his own business in the near future. I’ve seen both these occur to clients and they are not pretty. The loss of data along can be big enough to ruin any business, painful to say the least.
