Hallucinations - Why AI Makes Stuff Up

It’s 2020. Sounds a little bit like the future right? Where are all the silver suits! … The year is wrapped for most, and while you try switch off for the year, your mind will likely still wander back to work! I’ve got one big tip for 2020 and it probably already obvious to most “Be the Show not the Ad”.

Everything in digital marketing has been about Content is King, and it certainly is swinging back in that direction for 2020. The big Ad platforms like Facebook, YouTube and Google have tuned their algorithms to maximise ad dollars, and the field for organic content is limited. But in comes LinkedIN, Tiktok and back in action is SEO. The world of marketing can’t be more open, this natural cycle of new platforms capturing our attention and building off organic original content means we are in a year of show-off opportunity 🙂

The top TikTokers are passing 10 Million followers, and they’ve done this in MONTHS. It is blowing up atm because of it’s lightweight, easy to use and has a phenomenal on-mobile editing experience for full blown video. My prediction is it will take over Facebook and Instagram for screen time in 2020.

LinkedIN is another content play, their driving hard on featured and organic content – their feed is looking like facebook – but without the 1% organic visibility. Facebook’s feed feels like its bumped its organic content up a point or two, as it understands It needs to compete in the fresh content play – not just charge for advertising. Facebook pre-answered this challenge with Instant-Articles (low cost on platform popups) and they are the most sophisticated in their revenue approach.

While the platforms vie for our original content to keep users active on their platform and chew up screen time, the basic result is this – invest hard in original content and just like any seasoned branding or marketing guru knows, you gotta have your own territory – don’t just copy paste within your category, you’ll get no fast paced benefits.

How quick can you grow – We played around on TikTok this year @elf_advent – and in 2 weeks generated around 100k video views, 1k followers and almost 20k likes. (Yes that’s the elf in the post, bit of Christmas fun except the eldest kids (8) called us on it this year and found out it was my wife doing the Elf-on-the-shelfing)… Check it out at – Tiktok

We also dialled up Linkedin organic content play which generated tones of hype and clients for us, 3-4 fun on-topic digital / nerdy posts a week plus one good article link (like this) has generated thousands of views and web traffic per month. Just remember don’t always chase the likes, busy people don’t have time to hit like, nor do they want to every time you post.

By far these are the two hottest platforms to build cost effectively, no matter your number of followers to start with. Back up with SEO and start to connect keywords from the categories you run in and you’ll have 2020 growth sorted. If you need strategic and content support – call us, we can help you bootstrap and get up all the way through to multichannel growth hacking of these and other platforms.
