Big Commerce – eStore and Enterprise Development

BigCommerce’s ‘eCommerce’ Software &Mine

AndMine is now a leading developer in the BigCommerce eStore and eCommerce space. With eCommerce in Australia booming significantly, we were lucky to be introduced to BigCommerce a few years ago to learn their platform. While we do build in other technologies like Magento and Shopify, we are recommending BigCommerce for clients looking to have a super-stable, feature-rich, cost-effective eStorefront up quickly to start selling and converting.  As an early adopter of their service, we have seen the eStore platform grow dramatically since then, and have just heard from their strategy team they are rolling out their brand new UI (user interface) to compliment their growing API – described by BigCommerce’s US team as sexy.  The Big Commerce SaaS platform, as of July 2012, has in excess of 25,000 unique storefronts worldwide. Lets take a look at some of the top bigcommerce features.

Top Bigcommerce Features- Why do we love building our clients eStores in BigCommerce?

Of hundreds of bigcommerce features, we’ve narrowed it down to our top 5.

1. Beautiful design: We can now design BigCommerce to wow your visitors and customers (see examples below)
2. Support: The software is incredibly well supported by BigCommerce (and the’ve now got a Sydney office)
3. EcoSystem: Automatic mobile, Facebook, social media and eBay store activation
4. Marketing: Built in SEO and lead facilitation is superb and has been further refined by our search marketing team
5. Connectivity: As a key BigCommerce developer we have access to their latest API. This means we can drive BigCommerce well beyond it’s features, including: full integration of warehousing, SEM, advertising, and POS or fulfilment (pick & pack) solutions.

Elizangela Said :
"As you are updating your webtsie very close to the shopping season, I would suggest a few things you should consider when choosing a platform besides just the ecommerce issues. One area is SEO and related issues, mainly. Is it easy to match urls in the new platform to your existing urls because whatever earlier links through search engines or links from other sites or users bookmarks will go if this is not the case. You will have to set up a lot of redirects if you have many products and the urls change. Searchers will get page not found for existing results in search engines. How does the platform handle duplicate urls. How many copies of a product page does it create? How does it help with canonicalization issues so all link value is passed to a single url even with multiple copies. Do you need to buy some plugin for this or it is inbuilt. Can you optimize your title, meta, header tags easily with the system or need a paid plugin. The best solution if it is manageable size wise, is if your current site is doing well, keep as is structurally and try and make it better within those constraints. If it does not have a good shopping solution, then only replace that portion with a new product. Usually it is better to do this atleast 3 months before the target season."

"Some good points in there, thanks Elizangela."
