Customising BigCommerce Cusomtisation

This article forms part of our Customising BigCommerce’ case study series. We work with clients who are looking to digitalise their sales platform by affecting BigCommerce changes to suit their business needs.

Dinosaur Designs is a brand that has not only introduced a revolutionary and avant-garde series of jewellery and other accessories for more than over three decades but has helped shape design thinking and evolution of newer concepts in the industry.

The Challenge: BigCommerce Changes

The team at Dinosaur Designs contacted AndMine and challenged us to deliver on a Custom BigCommerce Platform. They had a large range of customisations in mind in order to create a global eCommerce presence. They aimed to enhance their retail business in a way that reflected their uniqueness, history and brand value and also enable users to navigate a user-friendly and a visually pleasing site.

The Delivery

Like all projects, our team delivered across rounds of briefing, alterations, discussions, testing and prototyping. We built and enhanced the current version of the Dinosaur Designs eCommerce sites and worked across three global domains: Australia, USA and UK. The team at Dinosaur Designs loved the results and thanked us for developing a site that not only fulfilled their brief but allowed us to continually improve and support their business online to this day.

Salient Features

Functions and features customised for the Dinosaur Designs BigCommerce website:

  1. Aesthetically pleasing content placement system incorporating ‘minimalist design concept’ which looks classic, retro and modern at the same time.
  2. A dynamic menu that enables faster, better and efficient navigation and search.
  3. Custom developed to filter the product by colour, taking the interface to a new level.
  4. The ‘filter by colour’ functionality (along with filter by price) was added long before sites like BigCommerce introduced faceted search. The filter we introduced is better than faceted search, the latter being limited to certain levels.
  5. The site fully embraces the philosophies of &Mine in digital marketing for the 21st century and boasts better organic leads, traffic and conversion rates.
  6. International rollout of AU, UK, USA sites across the BigCommerce Platform and geo-location networking for nearest store.

The Results

Dinosaur Designs leveraged the BigCommerce platform with major but solid customisation from the &Mine team and are now in their fourth year of stable and successful growth on the platform. The ability to stay within an out-of-the-box platform, especially considering the custom features to meet the unique product SKUs and variations, showcases both the flexibility of the platform and the robustness of &Mines Enterprise level partnership with BigCommerce, which has flourished for over 5 years now.
